Amp up the Bookjoy and bring everyone in your school community to the Fair when you host Fair previews, family events, and other activities.
Previews, Events, and Activities
Teacher previews
Invite teachers to browse after the Fair is set up. This kids-free sneak peek gives them a chance to choose the books they want to add to their classroom libraries. And once they’re familiar with the Fair, teachers can help students find the books they’ll love.
During the teacher preview:
o
Remind them to redeem their $5 off $20 teacher coupons (not available for Tabletop Fairs).
o
Encourage them to create an eWallet and a Teacher Wish List, so students’ families can donate to help stock classroom shelves.
o
Ask teachers to fill out shelf talkers recommending their favorite books.
Student previews and wish lists
Invite each class to visit the Book Fair before they shop. Student previews give kids a chance to explore the Fair and create wish lists to share with their families. When the time comes to shop, the kids know what they want and their eWallets are loaded and ready!
o
Print and hand out student wish lists for kids to fill in.
o
Point out shelf-talkers and teacher-recommended books.
o
Share book resources like book blurbs and book trailers to hype the books.
Family events
Boost sales at your Book Fair when you host a family event during Fair week. Grown-ups get to see their child’s Bookjoy up close (grandparents love spoiling the grandkids!), and kids get to show off the books they can’t wait to read. Invite families to shop with their kids during morning drop-off, the PTO picnic, or an after-school shindig.
Make it an event to remember when you:
o
Arrange photo ops to preserve precious memories.
o
Serve delicious, healthy snacks.
o
Invite your principal to greet families.
o
Schedule fun activities like raffles and games.
Join our Fair Organizers Facebook Group to get tips about family events from your fellow hosts.
Storyvoice
Meet the authors behind the most popular books at the Fair.
Get kids hyped for the Fair with Storyvoice, the digital platform where popular authors and illustrators read aloud to your students. Storyvoice hosts FREE weekly live read-aloud events, and when you host a Fair, your school gets exclusive benefits.
o
Take your students behind the scenes with authors before live events.
o
Listen for shout-outs to your school from the host or author during the show.
o
Participate in a live conversation with the author.
All for Books™
Make this giving program part of your Fair to help bring Bookjoy to every kid.
With All for Books, a simple collection box turns small donations into a big difference. Donations collected during the Fair are yours to distribute. Use them to provide books for students who couldn’t attend the Fair or were unable to shop. Look for the collection box in your Kick-off Kit, and encourage donations when you:
o
Start a loose change drive.
o
Let shoppers round up purchases for All for Books at the Register.
o
Host a raffle or contest to benefit All for Books.
Bookjoy boosters
Rally your school around reading by organizing excitement-building, Bookjoy-boosting activities that’ll have everyone psyched and ready for the Fair.
Keep reading front and center in the days and weeks leading up to the Fair when you:
o
Use Scholastic Dollars™ to reward students with Fair coupons when they get "caught reading".
o
Host a reading-themed spirit week.
o
Organize a principal-faculty challenge, such as “a funny dance routine at a school assembly” or “slime the principal” to meet your Fair’s sales goal.
o
Plan easy, engaging contests—like door-decorating contests and classroom coin challenges—to get kids pumped about the Fair and kick off All for Books fundraising.
